Update on Mr. Seven

I just realized that we never did a final post on Seven. For those who remember, a few months ago, my friend Gerry and I found a small black kitty on Seventh Street. He was very hungry, matted, skinny and walking around at 9am. Morning hours are very busy with walking commuters so this is odd behavior to be out and about for city cats. We gave him food and he was just standing out in the rain... also a bit strange. We realized that his eye was not quite right and he was limping. We decided to trap him and took him to the vet and they said he was covered with wounds. His back legs were in bad shape. Although the vet's policy is not to keep feral cats, they kept Seven (cute name right!) for 3 weeks so he could heal. They neutered him and gave him a bunch of antibiotics. He finally got a clean bill of health and although we were hoping to socialize him and make him an indoor kitty, that wasn't meant to be. We had to release Seven back outside, but he was now a neutered male, so much less likely to fight. We have had a few Seven sightings since we released him so it appears he is doing well. The vet said Seven was a day or two away from certain death when we took him in, so he was very lucky to be out and about that morning. As Gerry always says, 'if you see something, do something'.
